Chengdu: Pandas, Bronze Mystery & Slow Life — 6 Days

Three things you can only experience in Chengdu

1. Giant pandas, up close, in their real habitat. Chengdu is the panda capital of the world. We go early, when they’re active, and arrange a translated talk with conservation researchers.

2. The Sanxingdui mystery. A 3,000-year-old civilization that cast bronze masks with protruding eyes and three-meter-tall figures — then vanished without a trace. It looks like nothing else in human history. Archaeologists still can’t agree on who they were.

3. China’s slow life. Chengdu is famous across China for not rushing. Tea houses, park life, three-hour dinners. After a week in Beijing or Shanghai’s intensity, Chengdu is the exhale.

The ancient engineering you didn’t expect

On day 5, you’ll walk through Dujiangyan — an irrigation system built in 256 BC that still works today, feeding 5,000 square kilometers of farmland. No dam, no pumps, just brilliant ancient engineering.

Frequently asked questions

What is Sanxingdui and why is it mysterious? +

Sanxingdui is a 3,000-year-old archaeological site featuring bronze masks with protruding eyes and alien-looking figures. The civilization left no written records and vanished suddenly. It looks completely different from 'mainstream' Chinese civilization — historians still debate what it means.

Will we definitely see pandas? +

Yes. The Panda Base has over 200 pandas, and mornings are reliably active viewing times. We time the visit to give you the best chance.

Is Sichuan food too spicy for kids? +

We arrange child-friendly and non-spicy options at every meal. The 'numbing-spicy' reputation is real, but it's optional.
